  About School of Planning
The School of Planning, established in 1972, is one of the foremost Schools of Planning in the country. The primary focus of the academic program has been on Sustainable Development of the urban and rural populace and improving their Quality of Life through better access to employment opportunities, infrastructure services and housing. The School has heralded a new philosophy in planning education in the country with its innovative approach which focuses on the assimilation of a spectrum of developmental issues. Apart from imparting classroom instruction to students, conscious efforts are made to impart hands on training by involving them in various live planning projects. The curriculum integrates the physical aspects of planning with the socio-economic aspects, thereby widening the traditional frontiers of developmental planning.

Graduates and postgraduates in Architecture, Engineering, Planning, Sociology, Economics and Geography pursue a degree in planning. The two year course enriches their capabilities, simultaneously inculcating team work. Seminars, discussions and exchange programmes are organized regularly for constant interaction with national and international agencies, thereby aiding a holistic exposure.

The School receives financical and logistics support from the Government of India, the Government of Gujarat and the Ahmedabad Education Society, which are esteemed patrons. The initial financial assistance was made available through a grant from the Ford Foundation.

All academic programs are approved by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) besides newly launched IAPM (Industrial area planning and management) and all the programs are recognised by ITPI (Institute of Town Planners, India).
